Air core inductors are components that generate induced electromotive force when there is a change in current, and this electromotive force opposes the change in current. This can be likened to a spring: when we try to compress a spring, it generates a rebound force that hinders further compression. Similarly, when the current in an air core inductor attempts to change, it produces induced electromotive force to maintain relative stability in the current.
When the current becomes too high, the air core inductor will store some energy, similar to how a spring stores potential energy. When the current returns to its initial state, the inductor releases the stored energy, gradually returning to equilibrium. This process is like a spring slowly returning to its original shape after releasing potential energy.
Additionally, air core inductors have the property of mutual inductance: the current in one circuit generates a magnetic field that can affect another circuit. This interaction is referred to as mutual inductance, with transformers being a typical application of this property.
